Tonia is a Brand Strategist, a Graphic Designer, and an indoor plant lover, based in Auckland, New Zealand.
Telling the story of a brand in a clear and purposeful way, is one way Tonia helps her clients communicate to the world. Her love of life, is woven into her attitude and her work. She started freelancing almost twenty years ago in her early 20’s, and was way ahead of the times working from home. Over the years she has worked out a good work and life balance, something that is so important for us all now. She was able to help me see things from a new perspective in our conversation and I know you will find the same when you listen in to today’s episode.
Tonia is an award winning designer, recently being presented the Rocket Spark Design Partner of the Year. A platform for websites which lives by the saying - ‘a rising tide lifts all boats’, just like us here at Remarkable Women Radio!
Taking her cue from nature, Tonia adapts to change by learning new skills and then implementing them straight away. Her business has organically evolved over the years and has become its own entity - ‘my business has always been there for me’. Her abiding principles to live by are seriously ones to listen to. She touches on BALANCE, designing a lifestyle, discomfort being essential for growth, procrastination being part of the process (phew!), and knowing your own process.
She is clear that graphic designers are not artists. Artists express parts of themselves in the work - leaving things open to interpretation.
A designer however, uses their creativity to solve problems. The viewer needs to ‘get’ the idea and the purpose of the idea.
